Our Approach

Inspired by Montessori, Reggio Emilia and Waldorf teaching practices, Woodland Haven implements different aspects of each model into our program. We believe that children thrive in an environment that nurtures hands on exploration of personal interests by creating a frequently changed, low-stimuli environment that is curated for independence, imagination, and problem solving. With a strong focus on Social Emotional Development, we will teach our children how to acknowledge, understand, communicate and cope with their emotions. By developing these skills during critical brain developmental years, our children will graduate our school with a solid foundation to take on the world in their years to come.

Social-Emotional Learning

Social-Emotional learning (SEL) is the process of developing self-awareness, self-management, and interpersonal skills. Children's brains are rapidly developing from birth to age five, with 80% development by age 3 and 90% critical brain development by age 5. At Woodland Haven, we emphasize the value of human life, build self-esteem and teach healthy emotional coping skills. Learning these skills as early adolescents will help teach our children how to effectively communicate, constructively debate and to be successfully assertive in academic and social settings. By creating a solid foundation for Social-Emotional Learning, we can help mold the future success of our children at both an academic and social level.
